Silagra 50 mg is a pharmaceutical drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains sildenafil citrate, which is the same active ingredient found in the more widely known Viagra. While Silagra itself was not "discovered" as a unique drug, it is a generic version of sildenafil, originally developed by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Pfizer discovered sildenafil citrate in the late 1980s during research on treatments for hypertension and angina. The discovery of its effect on erectile dysfunction led to the creation of Viagra, approved in 1998. Silagra is manufactured by Cipla, an Indian pharmaceutical company, which formulated and marketed it as an affordable generic alternative to Viagra.
